This science is 3000 years old and acknowledges our bodies as being constructed from and containing the elements of nature, earth, air, fire & water. These natural elements present themselves through us, giving rise to a particular natural body type. There are three types of metabolism and these are known as Dosha’s.
A Dosha Diagnosis has many health benefits for you.. Your body demands what it needs not what you may choose to give it. To function efficiently with good health & longevity you must give your body the right combination of foods. A standardized diet may be harmful to your body type.
The Three Dosha's are:
Vata - Airy disposition. The King of the Doshas. Vata is able to eat almost anything when in balance. They can convert calories very easily, they are the true thoroughbreds of the body types. When Vata is out-of-balance they can become scattered, have broken sleep, become wasteful, self-indulgent & sick.
Pitta - Fiery disposition. Very quick to burn-off what they eat, they need a temperate to cool environment, clean water & consistently high quality foods for them to function well & stay in-balance. When out-of-balance Pitta is a real hot head! they should avoid oily/greasy foods, hot/spicy foods & alcohol or they could become angry.
Kapha - Earthy disposition. This dosha is mostly heavy, stable & durable, and curiously, wet & sweet. Kapha is at their best when spices are present in their diet, it helps to stimulate them. When out-of-balance Kapha is cold, slow-to-start, greasy and lethargic. Kapha puts weight on steadily & removes it slowly.
